A film production company wanted to open its offices towards a garden it had acquired within an inner block, benefiting from excellent southern exposure. Windows were designed with sunshades that allow winter light to enter while blocking summer sunlight.

Inner-block areas are hidden treasures in Brussels, offering essential tranquil green environment. After acquiring a well-oriented plot, a production office was able to significantly enhance their spaces through the simple creation of two openings.

In this project, a tall masonry wall needed to be pierced, revealing the building’s stages of transformation. My goal was to express the gravitational force at work, using heavy concrete sunshades that cast deep shadows on the facade.

To reinforce the sense of weight in this masonry wall, two strategies were adopted: a marked recess of the new openings and the addition of concrete sunshades, with concealed supports to preserve the visual continuity of the load-bearing path.
