Applications
Rockfon Sonar is ideally suited for application in various environments, including communal corridors, lobby areas, and stairwells. In these spaces, Rockfon Sonar effectively fulfills sound absorption requirements outlined by AD.E.

By incorporating the B, C, or G edge options, Rockfon Sonar achieves AD.E.-compliant sound absorption while minimizing the reduction in ceiling height. This innovative design allows for a minimum ceiling height reduction of just 20mm, delivering the necessary sound control without the need for holes, slots, or fissures. Rockfon Sonar is available in a range of product lines, including Rockfon® Sonar®, Rockfon® Sonar® dB, and Rockfon® Sonar® Activity, catering to diverse needs.

Lightweight and easy to install
Rockfon Sonar offers widespread design flexibility and installation possibilities. Rockfon's stone wool ceiling tiles are lightweight and easy to cut and install, saving time and labor costs. They can be installed in unfinished buildings due to water resistance and contribute to faster project completion. Rockfon tiles require a simple utility knife for cutting and minimizing dust and waste.

- Lightweight: Compared to traditional materials like wet-felted mineral fiber or gypsum, Rockfon's stone wool tiles are considerably lighter (50-80% lighter). This translates to easier handling and maneuverability on the job site, reducing the risk of worker fatigue and injuries.

Fast installation: The lightweight nature also contributes to faster installation times. Additionally, Rockfon tiles' water resistance allows for installation in unfinished buildings where traditional materials might be compromised. This eliminates potential delays due to waiting for windows to be sealed or HVAC systems to be fully operational.

Simple cutting: Unlike other materials that require scoring and snapping, Rockfon tiles can be cut cleanly and precisely with a standard utility knife. This eliminates dust generation and the need for specialized tools or techniques, further streamlining the installation process.

Reduced waste: Rockfon's robust edges and ease of cutting minimize waste during installation. Additionally, the ability to cut tiles on-site ensures a more accurate fit around walls, corners, and fixtures, reducing the need for recuts and wasted materials.

Reference Projects

Middelfart Savings Bank

Middelfart Savings Bank designed by 3XN in Denmark sought a unique design for its new headquarters that would serve as both a community space and an architectural landmark. The building's dramatic roofscape, featuring 83 prism-shaped skylights, references the surrounding maritime environment and timber-framed buildings. Rockfon® Sonar® ceiling tiles play a crucial role in managing sound within the open space, creating a comfortable and visually appealing environment for the bank's employees and visitors.

Lund Kristallen City Hall
Lund Kristallen, the new green city hall in Sweden, prioritizes both environmental responsibility and user experience. The building has a unique design with a central atrium, aiming to create a vibrant and open space for staff and visitors. Rockfon® Sonar® ceiling tiles were incorporated.to achieve high sound absorption (NRC 0.90) to manage reverberation within the open atrium. The system minimizes noise distractions and ensures a comfortable soundscape for everyone using the space. Additionally, Sonar's compatibility with direct soffit installation maximized the ceiling height within the atrium, contributing to the overall feeling of openness and spaciousness.

van Hoorebeke Timber Gent
The van Hoorebeke Timber Gent Warehouse by TRANS architectuur prioritizes both functionality and aesthetics. The building features a large open floor plan with a gently sloping roof. Rockfon Sonar ceiling tiles were a suitable solution for this space due to several key features.Rockfon Sonar has a high NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) of 0.90, so it is crucial in managing noise reverberation within the vast warehouse. This minimizes distractions for employees working in the upper office areas and creates a more comfortable acoustic environment throughout the facility. Rockfon Sonar's lightly textured white surface complements the warehouse's industrial visual. Moreover, the material comes in a variety of module sizes and edge details allowing for design customization. This flexibility is beneficial in accommodating the warehouse's unique layout and potentially integrating it with any existing architectural features.
