Alec Holland había trabajado con sus clientes hace unos 8 años, cuando se mudaron por primera vez al edificio Rosario Candela, construido en la década de 1920, y querían ayuda con la decoración. Cuando se mudaron dentro del edificio al ático dúplex, mucho más grande, volvieron a ponerse en contacto con el diseñador. Su estilo había cambiado con los años y estaban muy interesados en decorar su nueva casa con una fuerte inclinación hacia el diseño moderno de mediados de siglo.
Las obras operativas eran "confort sencillo y elegante". Querían colores apagados y piezas clásicas sencillas. Para el mobiliario, Alec Holland buscó tanto piezas icónicas de mediados de siglo como nuevos diseñadores que mantuvieran la misma estética de líneas limpias y detalles sutiles, como las librerías vintage de Mogens Koch y el sofá de Fair, construido nuevo en Brooklyn. El mayor reto fue trabajar con contratistas ya establecidos. Alec Holland tuvo que actuar como defensor de sus clientes para asegurarse de que estaban satisfechos con todos los resultados. Los propietarios confiaron plenamente en el diseñador para crear la casa de sus sueños.
