3 Houses in Campeche

3 Houses in Campeche

The 3 Houses in Campeche were designed to comfortably fit the narrow 4-meter-wide plots. The idea was to create homes that would allow future residents to freely appropriate the spaces, with flexible layouts that enable generous use of the rooms despite the limited width of the plots. Another key aspect of the design was ensuring sufficient lighting and ventilation for all houses. To achieve this, internal courtyards and cutouts with large glass planes were used to maximize contact with the exterior, ensuring good environmental comfort for the homes.

Although these are row houses, the design sought to highlight characteristics of a typical Brazilian coastal home. Balconies and small terraces were incorporated into the bedrooms as transitional spaces between the interior and exterior. The small terraces in the bedrooms facing the backyard patio are vertically connected to the barbecue area—a common feature in Brazilian homes—encouraging a visual connection between the first floor and the backyard.

The roof was designed with a simple geometry. The slopes were oriented toward the courtyards and cutouts of the houses, concentrating the downspouts in a few collection points. This decision regarding the roof is reflected in the final volume of the three houses, which stand out in the landscape with their distinctive "butterfly" profile.

Finally, to create visual unity among the three homes, the first-floor volume was designed with a lighter treatment (using wood and white paint), resting on the ground-floor structure, which features a darker and more rugged finish.
